That Moment When Your Caddy’s Screen Just Goes Blank
So I’m driving home from work yesterday, cruising along, enjoying the quiet ride of my 2018 CT6, and out of nowhere the entire infotainment screen just goes black. No warning, no flickering, just complete darkness. I’m sitting there thinking, okay maybe it’s just a glitch, so I pull over, turn the car off, wait a minute, start it back up, and still nothing. The radio still works through the steering wheel controls, but I can’t see anything, no navigation, no climate info, no backup camera, nothing. This is the first real issue I’ve had with this car since I bought it used about eight months ago, and honestly I’m kind of panicking because I know how complicated these electronic systems can be and how expensive they are to fix. I’ve spent the last couple of hours scrolling through forums and watching videos trying to figure out if this is a common problem with an easy fix, or if I’m looking at replacing the whole display unit which I’m sure is going to cost a small fortune. Some people said it could be a loose connection, others mentioned a software update that fixed it, and a few had to replace the entire module which sounded terrifyingly expensive. I’m not exactly handy with electrical stuff so I don’t really want to start pulling panels off and poking around myself, but I also don’t want to walk into a shop completely clueless and get taken advantage of. I’ve already started looking for places that actually know what they’re doing with these cars because I’ve heard way too many stories about general mechanics messing up the electronics on newer vehicles. If you’ve dealt with this before, what ended up being the cause for you and how much did it set you back? I’m planning to take it in this weekend if I can find a spot that has availability, and honestly I just want to know what I’m walking into before I hand over my keys. Visit this page if you’re curious about what I found when I was searching for service options in my area, because I actually came across some useful info that helped me narrow down my choices. Anyway, I’m keeping my fingers crossed so that it’s something simple and not the nightmare scenario I’m picturing in my head right now.
